Before You Rent

When choosing a rental property it is important to note the a landlord or property owner owns the property, but for a tenant, this is your home.

It is important that you make 100% sure that the property you want matches your needs and lifestyle before committing to the property and signing a tenancy agreement. 

You should also carefully read the entire agreement as well as any special terms and conditions before signing anything and before paying any money at all.

Before You Rent Checklist

  • Is the property the right size for your needs & Wants?

  • Is the location right for work & your social life?

  • Is it suitable for children and can you have pets?

  • What about maintenance? (e.g. who looks after the pool, or the garden, do your or is it included in your rent ?)

  • Does the property have all the facilities you need? (e.g. does it have NBN, Pay TV? If not, can it be added and who will pay for these services to be made available?)

  • Is water usage included or do you have to pay?

  • In a rural property during dry times will you need to refill the water?

  • If there are gas bottles, will they be filled at the start of the tenancy and will a receipt be provided?

  • Does the property have the level of security you require? (e.g. screens on windows)
